Recognising our corporate responsibility as a major player in the telecommunications market, Cable & Wireless (Barbados) Limited has generously donated to a variety of projects in the areas of education, health, sports and culture - from the adoption of schools for the less fortunate and physically challenged, to sporting events in cricket, volleyball, swimming, tennis, and athletics
Here are some of the major sponsorship initiatives that have been implemented to date:
Cricket - Cable & Wireless’ unparalleled sponsorship of the West Indies cricket home series has come to an end after an 18-year knock. The company will now focus on its sponsorship of World Cup 2007.
The company made the announcement in June 2004 and revealed that it has decided to focus now on more strategic investments in cricket outside of the home series. This decision also allows Cable & Wireless to explore other opportunities that will lead to the delivery of more tangible benefits to Caribbean communities.
The company thanked cricket fans, staff, and the WICB for the fun and exciting times had throughout the sponsorship of the home series, which is the longest running cricket sponsorship in the world.
Cable & Wireless will be a regional telecoms sponsor of the World Cup 2007, the biggest sporting event to be hosted in the region.

Youth Cricket - the Cable & Wireless Under-15 Cricket Championships, Cable & Wireless has also been equally strong in its support for local cricket. Its vibrant Division one team is often in the hunt for glory in the annual competition. But it is in our contribution to the youth competition of which the company is most proud.
National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA), has been one of Cable & Wireless' longest running sponsorships. The company has been the title sponsor of the Performing Arts Finals and Gala for more than 15 years. For more information on NIFCA, visit http://nifca.ncf.bb
The company contributes to NIFCA not only through the provision of funds, but through the participation of its staff as ushers and its Sports Club, which runs the bar.
Internet Access in Schools - through CaribSurf, the company's Internet Service Provider, we have continually demonstrated that the education of our country's youth is of extreme importance. Though the provision of safe Internet access in all Government and registered Private primary, secondary and tertiary level institutions across the island, the company ensures that in all strata of the society the Internet is a household word.
For a number of years CaribSurf has also rewarded excellence in the Common Entrance Examinations with free Internet access from its Junior Cyber Club service to the top boy and girl in every primary school across the island. In 2003, 175 students were the recipients of that prize.
Other major sponsorships include:
- Crop Over Events - The Calvacades, Party Monarch and Pic-O-De-Crop Finals
